Winning start for Coleraine

Coleraine 5 Ballymoney United 1
Coleraine kicked off their preparations for the new season with a win on Saturday.

It seems no time since the European Play Off semi final against Cliftonville.

That was on May 10 and less than two months later, the players are back in action.

The Bannsiders began their build up by defeating Ballymoney United in the lunchtime kick off.

It was the first in a series of friendlies as Oran Kearney’s men gear up for the eagerly awaited August 5 opener against Ballymena United.

Near neighbours Ballymoney, who play in the Ballymena and Provincial League side, came up against a Coleraine team mixed with youth and experience.

There was also the chance for a triallist to make an impression.

There was a start in attack after a long absence for Andy Mitchell.

But it was young guns Luca Doherty and Corey McLaughlin who showed the way to goal.

The duo grabbed a goal apiece to give the Bannsiders a 2-1 interval lead.

A second half strike from Jack O’Mahony and a double from Conor McKendry rounded off the scoring.

H&W Welders provide the next test at the Showgrounds next Saturday (kick off 2pm).
