VINEYARD COMPASSION LAUNCHES “NO CHILD HUNGRY THIS SUMMER” CAMPAIGN

VINEYARD COMPASSION LAUNCHES “NO CHILD HUNGRY THIS SUMMER” CAMPAIGN

Vineyard Compassion, a leading anti-poverty charity, has announced the launch of its summer campaign titled “No Child Hungry this Summer.” This initiative comes in response to the recent decision by the Department of Education to scrap the free school meals holiday payments for low-income families. Vineyard Compassion strongly believes that no child should have to endure hunger during the school holidays, and this decision has put already vulnerable children at risk.

As part of the campaign, Vineyard Compassion aims to raise awareness of their food bank (Causeway Foodbank), situated at their Hope Centre facility. The Hope Centre’s food bank provides vital assistance to families in need, ensuring that no child goes hungry on the North Coast this summer. Additionally, Vineyard Compassion has established satellite food banks in strategic locations, including Portstewart Baptist Church, Coleraine Elim Church – The Heights, and Terrace Row Presbyterian Church. These satellite food banks expand the reach of Vineyard Compassion’s support, making it more accessible to families across our community.

CEO Ricky Wright expressed his concerns about the decision and emphasised Vineyard Compassion’s commitment to the community. He said, “It is disheartening to witness the cancellation of free school meals holiday payments for low-income families. No child living on the North Coast should go hungry, and Vineyard Compassion is here to provide food for any family who needs it. Our food banks, including the satellite locations, are ready to offer support and ensure that no child suffers from hunger during the summer break.”

Vineyard Compassion urges individuals, businesses, and the wider community to join forces in combating child hunger and supporting families in need. The charity invites the public to get involved by volunteering, donating essential food items, or contributing financially to help sustain their vital services.
