Twigg masterclass in a comfortable cup win for Macosquin

Macosquin FC 5 Coleraine Crusaders  2

Jude Twigg 21′, 34′, 38′, 45′, Russell Smyth 90’+9 for Macosquin Jamie Baxter 12′, Kristopher Thompson 57′ for Crusaders

This match started at Andersons Park with two in form teams knocking the ball about well. It was as early as the fourth minute when Crusaders went a man down when midfielder Johnny Gaile saw red for a harsh tackle on Macosquin’s Millar.

The Crues didn’t let being down to 10 men phase them as Baxter went through on goal and done well to beat the Macosquin centre half and found the bottom corner leaving keeper Warke helpless, putting the Crues 1-0 ahead with 12 minutes gone.

Macosquin picked themselves up after conceding and threatened the Crues goal numerous times, including Smyth being unlucky to have a shot cleared off the line. Their pressure was rewarded when a shot from Stuart Millar sent Twigg through on goal, he calmly placed the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1 with 21 minutes gone.

Macosquin broke when the McFall brothers linked up well on the right hand side finding Twigg, who again with his back turned to goal managed to skip past his marker and hit a lovely strike into the bottom corner, 2-1 Macosquin with 34 minutes gone.

Just 4 minutes later, striker Twigg found himself no less than 25 yards from goal and desperate to complete the hat-trick he drilled a shot which found the far top corner, an absolutely stunning goal which saw Macosquin go 3-1 up.

Macosquin continued to create chances and pile on pressure but were still missing good goal scoring opportunities up front. On the stroke of half time Twigg found himself 1 on 1 with the Crues keeper and again slotted home nicely to make it 4-1 to Macosquin and record his fourth of the game at half time.

The second half began with Coleraine Crusaders playing the better football, their pressure was rewarded with a goal when Thompson got on the end of a through ball and slotted it beyond Warke to make 4-2 Macosquin on 57 minutes.

The reminder of the half was competitive with both teams creating chances, Warke was forced into a couple of saves at one end while Macosquin striker Smyth was unlucky to have another shot cleared off the line by a Crues defender at the other end.

The match was on the 99th minute when Mark Millsopp went through on goal and took the ball round the keeper. He showed great heart as he managed to get onto the end of his heavy touch and slotted the ball home from a tricky angle to make it 5-2 to Macosquin.

This is another great win for the Macosquin lads as they go from strength to strength each week. Macosquin now have a quarter final against Maghera Strollers to look forward to.

This Man of the Match award was kindly sponsored by Macosquin loyal fan George Frame. An easy pick this week with Jude Twigg getting it for his four goals.
