Trevor brings curtain down on illustrious career

Big Turnout at Showgrounds to mark popular player, manager and coach Trevor McKendry

Trevor McKendry’s many friends in the football world turned out in numbers to recognise his contribution to the game and honour his retirement from Coleraine F.C.

It’s a long time ago since the youthful Trevor turned out for Bushmills United and Armoy United, and others, but even then, there was something that stood out about Trevor.

His encouragement to those players around him, his football brain was sharp, and was certainly no surprise when he was at Portstewart he was fast emerging as a coach of great talent tactical planning.

When he moved to Limavady to partner up with Oran Kearney, it was a journey that led both men to Coleraine Showgrounds where the few lows, were quickly forgotten with success in Irish Cup League Cup, doing well in europe and more importantly, challenging for the Premier League title, Trevor was highly instrumental in that success.

Trevor is highly respected at the Showgrounds. But for all the junior, and Intermediate players who attended, that respect goes back a lot longer than the Showgrounds, and a lot deeper.

As a player, in Trevor’s words: “I couldn’t tackle a plate of chips”, he certainly knew how to skip over those who thought they could. Always encouraging. always motivating, Trevor McKendry is a one-off, never to be repeated player, who came through the ranks of junior and intermediate football to success at Coleraine.

He has deserved his rest, he was a gentleman on and off the pitch. Now Caroline will have to get used to seeing him more and more around the house and as doting grandfather, Trevor will enjoy more time with his grandchildren.

Congratulations on a long and illustrious football career.
