Strabane removed from Cup semi-final following administrative oversight

Strabane Athletic were left disappointed after what should have been an opportunity to possibly progress into the final of the Crawford was denied them by an administrative error.

They were due to meet Ballymoney United on Saturday, but the tie was called off and awarded to United following an administrative error regarding an unpaid fine.

A statement from the club: Strabane Athletic are very disappointed to have been excluded from the Ballymena and Provincial Crawford Cup as the result of an oversight regarding a payment of £40.

Whilst accepting our culpability in the matter we feel that the punishment was very excessive and totally disproportionate to the offence. As a Committee we apologise for our mistake with utmost sincerity to our manager, his staff, our players and supporters, all who have represented the Club with such distinction this year.

Lessons learned, we will move forward with heavy hearts regarding the weekend’s events and look forward confidently to better days ahead.

We hope to see all our wonderfully loyal supporters at a very important League match against local rivals Newbuildings United on Wednesday evening,, 6.30pm Melvin Arena.

Though a strong wind was blowing through Saturday, only one game was lost due to the conditions. Among the games played were Intermediate and Junior Cup games which was pleasing.
