Shevlin sees red in scoreless derby at the Warden Street Showgrounds

Matthew Shevlin challenges Ballymena keeper Sean O’Neill leading to a red card.

IN a mundane derby lacking excitement and with Coleraine looking the busier of the two sides in front of goal, the tempo of the game changed dramatically after 32 minutes when Coleraine’s ace marksman Matthew Shevlin was shown red for a high challenge on Ballymena keeper Sean O’Neill.

Coleraine have been reduced to breakaway attacks in which they look dangerous without adding the killer touch while Ballymena, with the man advantage are controlling the tempo of the game.

Still all to play for in the second 45 minutes with Coleraine playing into the sun. Encouraging words from manager Oran Kearney at the break could lift his team to convert one of the many chances they are creating. At the same time, Coleraine must be wary of the home side who are edging closer to breaking the deadlock.
