Portstewart lose out in ill-tempered clash at Mullaghacall

Portstewart fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Moyola on Saturday, in what was an ill-tempered affair.

These sides last met in November, but the match was abandoned early in the first half following an injury to striker Ryan Doherty.

An early Moyola goal by Peter Duffin gave the visitors the lead after 18 minutes.

The match wasn’t without controversy, with tempers boiling over and five yellow cards handed out.

The first of two goals into the Portstewart net gave them the early lead that they kept going into the second half.

The second goal came from former seahawk Paul Smith putting the South Derry men 2-0 up, a lead they held until the break.

Portstewart with two wins under their belt in January sought a way back into the game, but after a flurry of activity in the first half, the second period saw the sides cancel each other out.

Moyola held on for the three points while this weekend Portstewart host Dollingstown.
