Popular James Balmer Memorial Summer Cup eagerly awaited

The draw for the 2024 James Balmer Memorial Cup will take place this evening in Mary Pat’s Bar, Macosquin.

Affectionately known as the Balmer Cup, this is perhaps the longest running knockout competition in the North-West which also attracts large crowds to the “School Grounds” in the village.

Following the draw, the first tie will take place on Tuesday, June 18.

On a sad note, the competition will take place this year without the presence of Samuel John McLaughlin, better know as Sammy-John he was an ever present at the tournament over the years until recent illness. Sammy-John was always available to help erecting and taking down the nets before and after cup ties.

A popular man in the village of Macosquin, he was also popular with the visiting teams who got to know him over the years.
