No festive cheer as Coleraine slump to defeat

Coleraine 2 Dungannon Swifts 3

Not much sign of any Christmas cheer around the Showgrounds today!

Coleraine slumped to defeat in front of a sparse crowd.

Those frustrated fans in attendance voiced their displeasure at the final whistle.

It was a similar story to a lot of games this season…plenty of possession but unable to create many chances.

Despite coming from behind to lead, Oran Kearney’s men conceded twice late on as Dungannon deservedly picked up three points

Coleraine began well but it was the visitors who should have gone in front on 12 minutes but Ethan McGee powered his close range header from a superb Ben Gallagher cross over the crossbar.

The woodwork then prevented Coleraine taking the lead just after the half hour.

Michael McCrudden controlled the ball on his chest before firing in a volley which ‘keeper Declan Dunne brilliantly touched onto the bar.

Lee Lynch wasn’t far away soon after with a free kick which drifted past the post.

But, Dungannon were handed the opener seven minutes before half time. Conor McKendry was penalised for handling inside the area and Matty Lusty blasted home the resultant spot kick.

Opportunities were few and far between after the restart. But two goals in the space of five minutes had the home side in front.

Coleraine grabbed a much needed leveller on 69 minutes. It was teenage striker O’Hara who struck again. McKendry crossed into the box and O’Hara finished clinically for his second goal from two starts.

Jarvis then put the Bannsiders in front with a sensational finish on 73 minutes. The defender pounced when Jamie Glackin’s cross wasn’t cleared and sent a volley flying past Dunne.

But Dungannon deservedly drew level four minutes from time. Tomas Galvin ran onto Cathal McGinty’s through ball and cooly slotted home.

But worse was to come.

Lusty sealed a win for the Swifts in injury time with his second penalty of the afternoon, following up to tuck away the rebound after Gareth Deane had saves his spot kick.
