McLaughlin returns to Coleraine

Highly rated striker Kirk McLaughlin has returned to Coleraine after two years away from the club.

His signing was announced by the club on Thursday afternoon.

The forward becomes the latest addition to Dean Shiels squad as the club prepares for the upcoming season.

McLaughlin arrives back at the Showgrounds having joined Glentoran in the summer of 2022.

Kirk shared his reasons for re-joining his hometown club. “I can’t wait to get started to be honest, coming back to my hometown club and scoring goals,” said the 20-year-old.

“I have been coming here since I was a boy and it’s just mad now that I’ve got the opportunity to come here and play full-time professional football.

“My family will all be down watching because my Dad’s a big Coleraine fan so that’s the best thing about it.”

McLaughlin had successful loan spells at Loughgall and Institute  during his time with the East Belfast club.

Head coach Dean Shiels spoke of the attributes that made Kirk a player the club wanted to see back at the Showgrounds.

“Kirk is one we are really pleased to get,” said Dean.

“He’s a local boy. He knows the club and has good connections to the club.

“But most importantly,  he’s a good player with those natural goal scoring instincts.”

Coleraine’s Kirk McLaughlin heads his side into a 2-1 lead in the 2021 Harry Cavan Cup tie with Ballymena United.
