Marty Smith lands top role at Institute

Institute Football Club has today announced Martin Smith as their new Head of Academy.

Marty comes to the club with a highly impressive CV after a five year spell at Coleraine.

A popular figure at the Coleraine Showgrounds, he won NIFL league titles at Under 16, Under 18, and  Under 20 level.

Marty also memorably  led Coleraine into the Youth Champions League where they beat FK Pobeda (North Macedonia) in the first round.

Marty has a real pedigree for developing young talent, and his new employers are looking forward to seeing their young players progress under his guidance.

When asked why he was attracted to ‘Stute, Marty said “there were other offers on the table, but the drive, desire and commitment of Stephen Parkhouse (Sporting Director) and Kevin Deery (First Team Coach) and the Institute Board played a big part in helping me make this choice.

“It’s a project that really excites me, and I look forward to working closely with the players and coaches to further develop the Institute Academy.”

First team manager Kevin Deery also gave his thoughts on the appointment “Marty has done some brilliant work developing young local players and we are delighted he has chosen Institute to continue his development as head of our academy.”

Stephen Parkhouse commented” “As Head of our Academy, Marty will set the highest standards for coaches and players while helping them to become better at what they do, ultimately producing talented young players capable of transitioning to the Institute senior squad and beyond.”
