Late Coyle strike wins it for Coina

Coina took the bus up to Derry City to take on Walled City United in the first round of the Matt Morrison Memorial North West Junior Cup on a wet and windy day along the Foyle River at Prehen Pitches.

The match started off shaky for both sides as they both struggled to complete attacks due to the bobbly ground and windy conditions. It was a very tough task for both sides but it was Coina who would break through first on the 15th minute. Cahal Chambers played through Aidan McErlain who shrugged off pressure from opposing centre half and slotted the ball by the Walled City keeper into the bottom left corner. This put Coina, the visitors 1-0 up a quarter of an hour into the Cup fixture.

It was very much of the same in the second 15 , very little separating the sides with both getting chances on goal but neither converting. However, Walled City United were awarded a corner and miscommunication from The Coina defence left a Walled City man free at the back post for an easy tap in. This equalised the contest with 28 minutes played.

The second half started and it was Coina who came out looking ready to push on. They were controlling possession and creating chance after chance but falling at the final hurdle every-time. Coina were beginning to think their cup hopes would be settled through a shootout but never gave up . This evidently payed off when Coina counterattacked on the 93rd minute. This seen Substitute Peadar Coyle smash the ball past the Walled City Keeper for a last minute winner making him a Cup Day Hero for The Coina and putting them back into the hat for the next round.
