Killowen Purple Heroes remember all who fell at the Somme

Killowen Purple Heroes held their annual Somme Commemoration Parade in Coleraine on the evening of July 1, the day so many from this country lost their live at the battle of the Somme 107 years ago.

Coleraine, like all other towns and villages across Northern Ireland and ireland lost many of her sons on that fateful day, sons of all religions, all ages, all walks of life, lost in one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War.

More than three million men fought in the Somme Offensive,, of whom one million were either wounded or killed, making it one of the deadliest battles in all of human history.
