Killowen earn bragging rights from local derby

Killowen Development 2 East End 1

Robert Beckett 40, Szymon Szymanski 80 for Killowen; Kenzie Sharkey 50 for East End

On a miserable Saturday morning at Rugby Avenue, a feisty affair from start to finish as Killowen Development met near neighbours East End with bragging rights at stake from this local derby.

In what was an entertaining match from the first whistle with both sides giving 100% commitment, ,Killowen took the lead through Robert Beckett in the 41st minute from a great header that sent the keeper the wrong way.

This goal was all that separated the teams at the break and in the second half, Killowen looked the more focused but five minutes after the restart, Kenzie Sharkey fired home an equaliser for East End following a loose ball which wasn’t cleared.

As play ebbed and flowed, t didn’t take long for Killowen to assert control and in the 80th minute, Szymon Szymanski popped up with the goods with a scrappy finish to restore Killowen’s advantage.

Although Killowen pressed and pressed, coming close on multiple occasions through top goal scorer Archy Fleming, they could not find the back of the net.

The skills from tricky winger Jordan Millar was causing problems throughout the game, as as East End tried for an equaliser, they could not breach Killowen’s defence held together by wee Chucky who wasn’t letting anything get past him. If anything did get past, Brendan Fleming was there to clean up, with an excellent goalkeeping display.

A fantastic game to watch with special mention for Killowen Chairman J.P. O’Neill who has assembled a great squad of players at Killowen.

Best wishes to both teams as they continue their development next season.
