Injuries mar Ballycastle’s win over Dungiven

Ballycastle United 2 Dungiven 1

A good game of football marred by two serious injuries. Ballycastle United lost influential midfielder Benny Connor after 20 minutes to a suspected leg break. Callum Campbell came off the bench to replace Benny, however, just before half time Callum sustained a serious knee injury and had to be replaced.

The condition of the pitch made any sort of passing game almost impossible for both teams, with chances to score being few and far between.

Eldhose Alex came on at half time for the injured Campbell, and Ballycastle began to take charge of the game. Great work from Conall Magee and Lorcan Donnelly won a corner for the home side. Oran Kearney whipped a dangerous ball into the box where Conleth McCaughan managed to nip in front of the goalkeeper and give Ballycastle the lead.

Dungiven had the opportunity to draw level when they were awarded a penalty, however Eamon Butler pulled off an incredible save to keep the Town in front.

Their lead was doubled on 77 minutes when a cross from Lorcan Donnelly took a deceptive bounce and managed to find its way past the Dungiven goalkeeper.

Dungiven pulled a goal back with 8 minutes left on the clock, after a long range strike was parried by Butler and the Dungiven forward was first to react.

Best wishes and speedy recovery to Callum and Benny, two massive players for us and hopefully they will be back sooner rather than later.
