Harkin guests for Coleraine in friendly win over Portadown

Michael Anderson rounds up the action . . .

Another Saturday so that means another double header for Coleraine.

The Bannsiders had two games back-to-back at the Showgrounds today.

And it was another two wins to continue the summer momentum.

Lee Harkin also made an appearance against the Ports as a guest.

Previously at Derry City, Harkin earned a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But the 20 year old has been without a club since the beginning of the month.

The winger played for the Under 18’s and Under 21’s during his time in England.

Manager Oran Kearney again split his squad for the latest friendly fixtures.

First up at noon was Tobermore United, with the hosts running out 2-1winners.

Coleraine then came out on top again in the later kick off, defeating Portadown 3-0.

It was a more youthful side – with a sprinkling of senior players – who started against Tobermore.

Trialist Jake Wallace again featured at right back, with Andrew Mitchell leading the line alongside the impressive Luca Doherty.

Despite some fine stops by Gareth Deane, it was the Intermediate League side who took a first half lead, with poor marking allowing Daniel McIlhatton to score with a free header from a corner.

But two second half goals from a couple of the senior players secured a comeback success.

Striker Mitchell – good to see him back amongst the goals in pre season – and central midfielder Aaron Jarvis were on target.

Coleraine then enjoyed a comfortable victory over recently relegated Portadown.

The damage was done in the first half when the hosts grabbed all three goals.

Conor McKendry, Matthew Shevlin and Andy Scott got themselves on the scoresheet.

The preparations end with two more games next weekend.

Coleraine travel next Friday for their annual game with neighbours Portstewart.

And they complete their build up to the season opener against Ballymena United when they meet Ards at the Showgrounds on Saturday (kick off 2pm).
