Garvagh man Whiteside breaks Cup deadlock

Coleraine looked bright and up for this BetMcLean Cup tie at the Warden Street Showgrounds, but after a flurry of activity from the visitors, the hosts gradually established a foothold on the game and at time dominated the attacking play.

Coleraine, looking dangerous in the lead-up, only threatened once in the first half when man of the moment Conor McKendry forced a save from a combination of Johnston and McCullough.

However, one minute from the break, Ballymena struck from a dead-ball situation, Garvagh man Scott Whiteside capped a personally fine performance with a headed goal to put the hosts ahead.

Still time for Coleraine to turn this game round in the second half.
