Former Hearts Sports Scientist enlists at the Showgrounds

COLERAINE Football Club have announced the appointment of Junior Mendes as Head of Performance at the Ballycastle Road.

Mendes, a former player with St Mirren, Mansfield Town, Huddersfield Town and Notts County, was also a Montserrat international, representing his country on many occasions. He was on the bench for Saturday’s win over Glenavon

Finished playing, Mendes remained in the game as a sports scientist for Partick Thistle and St Mirren and moved to Hearts In January 2022 as Head of Academy Performance before relocating to Northern Ireland last year.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney said: “We (Coleraine) are delighted to bring Junior to the Club.

“We worked together at St Mirren and developed a friendship both on and off the pitch.

“Junior has worked with some big clubs during his time as a sports scientist before moving to Northern Ireland with his wife, I wanted to make sure we were able to bring him in.

“With the club’s aim to move into full-time football in the near future, Junior will help with that and he will add a high level of professionalism.”
