Draperstown Celtic suffer home defeat to Ballycastle

Draperstown Celtic 0 Ballycastle United 4

Draperstown Celtic welcomes Ballycastle to a damp Cahore on Saturday afternoon and were left frustrated by more than the result.

The lads thought they had taken the lead in the opening minutes when keeper Cassidys kick bounced over his opposite number and into the net but much to the frustration of the home side, the ref disallowed it for offside. Minutes later it was the visitors who took the lead when an outstretched Ballycastle foot in the DC box and turned a fairly innocuous ball into the home sides net.

Ballycastle soon got a second and at two down it was always going to be a near impossible job for the home side to get any sort of result against the well drilled visitors but they fought well to get back in to the game. Fortune wasn’t to favour them however when the referee awarded Ballycastle a third goal when he decided the ball had crossed the line, the ball seemed closer to the six yard line to essentially kill off the game.

Ballycastle eventually got a fourth to compound a miserable day for the home side.

2007/08s  4 – 1 Phoenix

Another promising performance from the 07/08 team on Saturday. First on the scoresheet was Shea Murray after some fancy footwork he beat the offside trap and slipped the ball past the keeper.

A short time later a long ball into the DC square and Brendan Kidd was harshly adjudged to have fouled the phoenix front man and the ref awarded a controversial penalty.

The phoenix lad stepped up and struck a sweet shot giving Fintan Flanagan no chance. This spurred the DC lads on and after some persistent pressure and a pinpoint cross, Daultagh beat two defenders and drilled the ball past the keeper at the near post. Next on the scoresheet was Brendan following a lovely corner from Daultagh, Brendy powered the ball to the phoenix net. Half time 3-1.

The second half started with a period of constant pressure from Phoenix but the DC defence stood strong. Then with about 20 minutes to go the DC lads broke at pace one for the cross to be cleared but it dropped to Oisin Quinn who calmly spotted the ball home. A good all-round performance from the full squad. Full time 4-1

DC2013’s battled through a tough game against a strong Limavady side today at Coleraine on Saturday but came out on the wrong end of a  7-1 defeat. Special mention to Alfie with a screamer in the top corner for our goal but our stand out player today was our goalkeeper Daithi. Outstanding performance in a difficult game.

The 2014 boys played superbly in what was far from superb conditions at Cookstown on Friday night. The weather didn’t stop the lads from putting in two great performances. The boys held their shape really well. There was some slick passing, excellent defending and a few great goals. Thank you to the parents for taking the lads and standing out in the pouring rain.

The rain couldn’t dampen the young DC Diamonds spirit on Friday night. Great shifts from all the girls. A pleasure to watch them improve individually and as a team. Thanks to those who stuck it out to cheer the girls on from the sideline. The club and coaches are very proud of these girls.
