Deputy Mayor visits Ballinasloe Fair

Deputy Mayor Councillor Margaret Anne Mckillop was delighted to attend the launch of Europes Oldest International Horse Fair and Festival in Ballinasloe, along with Alderman Sandra Hunter.

The town twinning with Moyle and Ballinasloe was established in June 1990 but links between the two areas go back to 1970. The purpose of the town twinning is to bring people together, with a view to developing friendships and fostering understanding of our different cultures, and encourage trade and tourism links.

ClIr McKillop, feels that it is important to reunite these links having been broken for the last few years because of Covid restrictions.

Both the Ballinasloe Fair and the Lammas Fair have seen radical changes over recent years, so it is important to ensure and acknowledge the history behind these two long standing traditional fairs is maintained, protected and promoted while both learn from each other.
