DC Diamonds victory over Moneyslane Ladies FC

The game got off to a brisk start with chances at both ends. Moneyslane threatened with some good combinations up their left side, but DC were able to keep them at bay with some good work from Martin and McKee.

The Diamonds began to increase the pressure and got the break through about 15 minutes in with a good ball from Murray finding Wylie who rifled a great shot in from distance. The Diamonds built on the pressure and were unlucky not to get another after some great play by McPeake who saw the keeper parry a shot that fell late to McKee, but Moneyslane were able to clear it. Halftime 1-0 Diamonds.

The second half started in the same vein with #6 and #8 from Moneyslane combining to cause real problems in the DC defence, but McCusker and McGuigan kept things tight at the back. The Diamonds continued to pile on the pressure and the second goal came midway through the half; after a great turn and ball from Shaw was met by Wylie who tucked it home for hers and DC’s second.

Final score 2-0 DC Diamonds. A great team performance by DC to secure the 3 points.

Thanks to Moneyslane for making the long journey – we look forward to the return fixture in August.

Special word of congratulations to one of our youngest founding players, Cassie Caulfield, who made her competitive debut for the Senior Diamonds last night! – Well done Cassie

Next week sees DC Diamonds pass the half way point in the league, with return fixtures against Raceview FC Ladies in Ballymena on Thursday 20th and Ballynahinch Olympic FC at Cahore on Sunday 23rd.

As always, all support for the team is welcome!
