Coleraine Crusaders crowned Champions

Coleraine Crusaders 4 Draperstown Celtic Reserves 1

Jamie Baxter, Scott Weir 3

Coleraine Crusaders FC secure Promotion and The Morning League Div 2 Title. In their first year back in the League after several years away its a fantastic achievement for the Club. Well done to all involved.

Coleraine Crusaders travelled to a sun soaked Cahore Road, Draperstown, on Friday evening, knowing it was a must win game to secure not only promotion but also the league title.

The Crues took time to settle and had some excellent early opportunities but couldn’t find the net. A massive chance for Draperstown before the half hour mark saw their striker head off the crossbar.

It was the Crues though who took the lead and that man again, Jamie Baxter who has had a great year notching his 26th goal of the season with 19 of those coming in the league.

Crues one- up going into half-time and the instruction from Management Andy White and Gary Campbell to get another goal and put the tie to bed.

Emerging for the second half, the Crues started slow and were dealt a blow when Draperstown equalised 1-1. They needed to up the ante and introducing fresh legs it worked, Bob Hunters left peg putting in an excellent corner and the big man Scott Weir powered home a header to make it 2-1.

Minutes later, the Crues made it 3-1, another Bob Hunter corner was met on the volley by Scott Weir who smashed it home. Relief now for the Crues that the title was in their grasp.

Moments later the job was done, Scott Weir again bundling the ball home after a whipped in corner, scoring his hat-trick and his 17th goal of the season from centre half and leaving the score at 4-1 Full-Time.
