Busy day for Bannsiders

Michael Anderson rounds up Saturday’s action

Another double header for Coleraine today as preparations continue ahead of the new season.

The squad was split again for friendlies against Ballinamallard United and Limavady United.

There was a comfortable 3-0 win against the Mallards in the noon kick off at the Showgrounds.

Ballinamallard were then involved later in the day in a friendly at Portstewart, with the Seahawks winning 4-2.

And across the mountain at Limavady Showgrounds, the Bannsiders triumphed 4-1.

Davy McDaid started once more but it was Andy Mitchell who grabbed a welcome goal in the Ballycastle Road success.

An own goal gave the home side an early lead.

Conor McKendry crossed for Mitchell but a defender turned the ball past his own ‘keeper after a couple of minutes.

Mitchell’s strike – a rebound from a McDaid shot – gave Coleraine an interval lead.

A good day’s work was completed by a McKendry second half screamer.

The lively winger found the top corner with a curling long range drive in the closing stages.

Another recent recruit, Graham Kelly, was in defence in the afternoon kick off against the Roesiders.

But it was attacker Ciaran O’Hara who made his mark.

The 17 year old, capped by Northern Ireland at Under 17 level, scored the only goal of the first half against his hometown club.

He doubled his tally in the second half as Luca Doherty and Joshua Callaghan also scored.

John Butcher grabbed Limavady’s consolation.

Conor McKendry, scored a screamer from distance for the Bannsiders.

Andy Mitchell, looking sharp in pre-season on his come-back from injury.
